Lean turkey wrapped in flaky puff pastry makes for savory bites that are as simple to prepare as they are to serve. Paired with an assortment of mustards, these Turkey Sausage Rolls become a reliable, crowd-pleasing addition to any gathering.

If you cannot find turkey or don’t like turkey, lean ground chicken would also work.

Instructions

  1. Mix ground turkey, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, ground black pepper, kosher salt, onion powder, and one whole egg into a bowl until well combined. 
  2. Fill the piping bag with the turkey mixture and set aside. 
  3. Beat one egg and a tablespoon of water in a bowl. 
  4. Place one sheet of puff pastry with the longest side in front of you. Slice the puff pastry half lengthwise. 
  5. Cut about 2 inches off of the tip of the pastry bag and pipe a row of the turkey mixture at the bottom edge of the sheet of puff pastry. 
  6. Brush the top edge with the egg wash. 
  7. Roll from the bottom upwards and onto the egg washed edge. Keep the seam side down. 
  8. Slice the roll into 3 portions. Take one portion and slice into three and set onto a plate or parchment lined baking sheet. Repeat with the rest and let chill for 30 minutes. 
  9. Mix sesame seed and poppy seed together. 
  10. Take out 9 rolls, brush rolls completely with egg wash and top with seed mixture. Keep remaining rolls refrigerated. 
  11. Place crisper plate into the air fry basket. 
  12. Select Air Fry function, adjust temperature to 450°F and set time to 5 minutes then press Start/Pause.  
  13. Place parchment on preheated crisper plate. 
  14. Add the sausage rolls onto the parchment paper.  
  15. Select Bake function, adjust temperature to 360°F and set time to 15 minutes then press Start/Pause. 
  16. Flip during the remaining 5 minutes of cooking time left. 
  17. Remove when done and place on wire rack to cool. Repeat with the rest. 
  18. Serve warm with whole grain mustard. 

Chef Notes: You can freeze leftover cooked sausage rolls and reheat them to an internal temperature of 165°F the next time you decide to eat them.
