Power your adventures with these homemade backpacking granola bars, made from scratch and dehydrated for the perfect trail-ready bite. Packed with oats, nuts, and natural sweeteners, these bars are gently dried to create a chewy, sturdy texture that holds up in your pack without crumbling.

Lightweight, nutrient-dense, and endlessly customizable, they deliver lasting energy whether you’re hiking, camping, or on the go. Skip the store-bought versions. These wholesome bars are as delicious as they are dependable.

How To Pick Rolled Oats

When picking rolled oats, select organic to avoid pesticides like glyphosate. Choose "old-fashioned" for a hearty texture, rather than quick-cooking varieties. Look for brands with 100% whole grain ingredients. Check for thick, uniform, unbroken flakes to avoid a mushy texture.

Ingredient Swaps

Use your favorite dried fruit and nuts or seeds.

Instructions

  1. Place the dried cherries, apricots, and nuts in a food processor. Blend until the fruit and nuts are finely chopped, with some small chunks remaining. Place mixture into a large bowl.
  2. Place the dates, honey, coconut oil, and vanilla in the food processor and blend into a thick, creamy, caramel-like texture. Pour mixture into the bowl.
  3. Add the rolled oats, cinnamon, salt, and flaxseed, and then stir until well combined.
  4. Spread the mixture onto a food dehydrator tray lined with the mesh screen, ensuring it’s in an even layer. Use a knife to score the granola into 9 squares.
  5. Select the Fruit function, adjust the temperature to 155°F and time to 8 hours, then tap Start/Pause.
  6. Remove granola bars when dried, but still chewy. Allow granola bars to cool completely, as they will harden and hold their shape more once fully cooked. Use a sharp knife to separate the granola bars. Store in a resealable bag.
