Curious how to make tater tots? Look no further as this recipe will guide you on making a healthier version of those beloved fast-food tots. These tots aren’t just better for you, they are also crunchy and delicious. You can dip them with your favorite dipping sauce, whatever your choice. 

How to Pick Potatoes

Texture: Make sure the potato is firm, and the skin is clean and smooth. 

Color: It should have a natural color and an earthy smell. Make sure you cut away any green from the potato.

Instructions

PREPPING THE TATER TOTS

  1. Shred potatoes and wash under running water until the water turns clear. 
  2. Transfer the potatoes to cheesecloth/towel and wring out as much water as possible. 
  3. Sauté the shredded potatoes in 1 tablespoon of oil with 1 teaspoon of salt for 10 minutes. Stir constantly. 
  4. Combine the slightly cooked potatoes with cornstarch, while it is hot, and mix until evenly coated. 
  5. Line a plate/tray with parchment paper. 
  6. Shape the shredded potatoes into 1.5”x 1” cylinder with a lightly oiled hand and place them in the parchment-lined plate/tray. If the mixture is too hot to handle, you can use gloves, so it is easier to handle. 
  7. Select the Preheat function on the COSORI Air Fryer, adjust temperature to 385°F, then press Start/Pause.  
  8. Place the tater tots into the preheated air fryer and spray with oil. 

COOKING THE TATER TOTS

  1. Select the Air Fry function, adjust time to 20 minutes, then press Start/Pause.  
  2. Flip the tater tots halfway through cooking. 
  3. Remove when done and serve.  

Chef Notes: Make sure to mix in the cornstarch while the potato is still hot as it makes it tacky and allows it to bind better. Once prepared, you can always freeze it for future use.
