Instructions

  1. Divide ground beef into 4 portions and shape into patties that are 1-inch thick. 
  2. Combine ¼ teaspoon salt, pepper, garlic, and smoked paprika into a small bowl. 
  3. Season both sides of the patties with the seasoning. 
  4. Soak sliced onions with buttermilk for about 10 minutes. 
  5. Stir together the all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon salt until well combined. 
  6. Drain onions from buttermilk mixture and add into the seasoned flour. Coat the onions well in the flour mixture. 
  7. Place crisper plates into the air fryer basket. 
  8. Select the Air Fry function, adjust temperature to 450°F and time to 8 minutes, then tap Start/Pause to preheat.  
  9. Place a sheet of parchment onto preheated crisper plate. 
  10. Coat parchment paper with oil spray. 
  11. Add onion straws to basket. 
  12. Select the Air Fry function, adjust temperature to 375°F and time to 10 minutes, tap Shake, then tap Start/Pause
  13. Flip halfway through cooking. 
  14. Remove onion straws with the parchment when done and set aside.  
  15. Coat crisper plate with cooking oil spray. 
  16. Place burger patties onto the crisper plate. 
  17. Select the Air Fry function, adjust temperature to 450°F and time to 6 minutes, tap Shake, then tap Start/Pause.  
  18. Flip burger patties halfway through cooking. 
  19. Remove burgers when done and place one slice of cheese per patty. Repeat if needed. 
  20. Assemble burger by spreading 1 tablespoon of barbecue sauce on the top half of the burger bun, then lettuce, pickles, and burger patty. Top with bun. 
  21. Serve burgers with onion straws.
