These apple fritters wouldn’t be complete without the warm, aromatic touch of cinnamon! While its enticing smell is a favorite, cinnamon can also offer some impressive health benefits. Its bark is packed with compounds, including cinnamaldehyde and cinnamic acid. Cinnamaldehyde, cinnamon’s primary bioactive compound, has been shown to support heart health by offering protective effects against many cardiac conditions, including myocardial infarctions (heart attacks).

Instructions

MAKING THE BATTER

  1. Stir together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, ground cinnamon, salt, allspice, and ground ginger until well combined to start the fritters. 
  2. Whisk together the whole milk, eggs, lemon juice, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl. 
  3. Add the wet to dry ingredients and fold until no dry spots are left. Fold in the diced apples and set aside. 

BAKING THE FRITTERS

  1. Place the crisper plate into the air fryer basket. 
  2. Select the Preheat function, adjust temperature to 425°F, then tap Start/Pause
  3. Place the parchment paper carefully onto the preheated crisper plate, then lightly coat with oil spray. 
  4. Scoop ⅓ cup of the batter onto the parchment paper, then coat the top with oil spray. 
  5. Select the Air Fry function, adjust temperature to 425°F and time to 8 minutes, then tap Start/Pause. 
  6. Flip halfway through cooking and coat again with oil spray. 
  7. Remove when done and set onto cooling rack. This may need to be done in batches. 
  8. Stir together the ingredients for the glaze and pour over the tops of the apple fitters. If the glaze is too thick, heat the glaze in a microwaveable bowl for 10 seconds. 
  9. Serve after allowing 10 minutes for the glaze to set. 

Chef Notes: If you want to completely coat the apple fritters in the glaze just like your mom-and-pop donut shop, double the recipe for the glaze.
